Groupanizer Update June 2010

The latest release of Groupanizer added two major and much requested features.

First, it is now easier than ever to build a first-rate public web site on top of the Groupanizer system.  And you should - it doesn't cost anything, it will save you money, simplify your life, and with a bit of planning it will be an improvement on your current web site.  Instructions to get your public site going are here.  And if that seems like too much work, ask us how we can help you get it going.

The most important thing - a common purpose

Nothing drives a group forward faster than passionate commitment to a common purpose, but most groups don't have it.  Either they are divided into factions, each one leaning towards a purpose that contradicts the others, or 90% of the group is simply apathetic, and going through the motions out of habit.  Fortunately, neither situation can withstand the light of day - if you start a dialog about purpose and ask everyone to sign up, the divisions will appear like cracks in the foundation.

How to run a group

Groupanizer provides great tools to run your chorus, choir or a cappella group, but we've learned something by listening to our clients - not everyone knows how to run such a group in the first place!  Imagine yourself as a first-time president, when suddenly it's your job to make sure things go smoothly.  Would you know what was broken and how to fix it to get better results?

Updates in build 237

Hi folks,

In this latest build, Feb 7, a few additions and small bug fixes:

  • The button to edit song status will only show up for other people's song status pages if they have permission to edit.
  • Added a noticeboard item for songstatus, to let people know if they have not entered their song status yet for some songs.
  • Added a convenience link to create a new user at the top of the member list page.

Enjoy!
Tom

New feature: the "what to do" block

With today's upgrade, you will notice that the "recent updates" block on the dashboard has been replaced by a much smarter "what to do" block that gives you some advice about... what to do!  Many new users are overwhelmed when they look at Groupanizer for the first time, and this should help.  For example, it will suggest that you create a profile if you don't have one, and let you know that there are some future events for which you have not indicated your attendance.

Feedback is welcome!

Cool icons, and a performances block

Hi folks,

The latest build of Groupanizer SING was deployed for all clients today.  By special request it includes a new block that shows upcoming performances only.  Use it on your dashboard to highlight performances without cluttering things up with calendar entries for rehearsals and meetings.

A bit of fine-tuning in the UI as well - the "details" link has been replaced by a magnifying glass icon for both attendance and song status, on the Member page and the Repertoire page.

Cheers,
Tom

Release 211 - fixed a few things

Hi folks,

In the last production release, two small fixes.  First, the ability to change someone else's attendance plan has its own specific permission, so you can allow Section Leaders to do it but not everyone else.  Second, task workflow has been simplified so that you can more easily get a task into the state you want.

Cheers,
Tom

Added Roster view

Groupanizer build 209 (now active for all users) includes a new "Roster" page, showing all members with the address and contact information.  Also included - some bug fixes that only affect brand new clients with no calendar entries.  Enjoy!

If you're not sure you are seeing the latest, please go to Administer -> Performance and click on the button to clear your cached data.

Two new event features added

Today I added two features to the standard configuration that have often been requested.

First, you can now create an event for a subgroup only.  This comes in handy for things like board meetings and section rehearsals, when you don't really want the whole chorus to attend.

Second, there's a handy link on the event page that tells you what your current plan is (i.e. "Will Attend", "Won't Attend", etc.) and lets you click to update it.

Enjoy!
