Could someone tell me how to set permissions for books to be edited?
As system admin I can see an Edit tab for the books I've created under Documents. However, the board members can't see that tab and I have tried giving them permissions to editing a book - but that hasn't changed anything.
Thanks!

Book permissions - for editing

Karin, it depends on where you are giving permissions, in Content Access or Book Access.
If you are using Content Access only, you will need to set permissions on each page that you create in the book.
If you are using Book Access, make sure that you don't have anything set in Content Access for Book Pages go to Administration >Content Management > Content Types > Book Page > Access Control. Remove all check marks on this page.
You will also need to have Documents that have different permissions organized into different books, as Book Access sets permissions at the top level of the book.
For Permissions in Book Access, you will need to make sure that the Board Role has at least View on the edit page. Click Save and make sure you select the Rebuild Permissions option at the bottom of the page.
I also have a Test user that I use to set with different permissions, so that I can log in with that users to actually see what the person is supposed to see. That way I can actually know what they should be seeing and if I have permissions set correctly
Hope this helps

Hi Carole,
Thanks for your response. I'm still struggling though. I'm not sure if I'm trying to or should be trying to do content access or book access. I want all board members to have access to edit any of the pages under Documents and all members to be able to view only.
When I went to 'Access Control' - the check marks you told me to remove are in grey so I can not uncheck them.
I have test users to - John. Doe- member & John-Doe-executive - that has definitely helped testing the permissions.
Any other tips would be greatly appreciated - thanks so much.

Karin, it sounds like you should be able to use just Content Access for permissions to Books, as you from what you described, you are only allowing Executive members to post and members to view throughout the documents folder. We are using Book Access as we want different permissions for different books. i.e. Members are not able to View the Management Team Files and the Music Team files and they are allowed to post most anything they want in folders they control. We were using Content Access for a while, but that was cumbersome and switched recently to Book Access.
If you have Book Access installed, Content Access will trump Book Access. The check marks that are grayed out are most likely roles that you have given the Administer Nodes Permission, which is required to create new profiles, BTW... Administer Nodes Permission will trump Content Access Permissions. If your Board Members have Administer Node Permissions, I am not sure why they cant see the Books in question.
You might send me some screen shots of your Content Access Permissions for Books and of the Book Access page and let me know what roles are supposed to have permission.
You could also try rebuilding permissions and see if that has any affect. I have found that some things get kinda wonky without rebuilding permissions. I don't think there is a shortcut to it, but you can go to it by site name... http://YourSiteName.groupanizer.com/admin/content/node-settings/rebuild.
Hope this helps

Thanks Carol.
So I figured out that I do not have book access installed - only content access. Both system admin & board members have access on this. Both board and system admin also have administer nodes permissions checked.
And I couldn't get the link you sent me to work to rebuild permissions.
This is driving me absolutely insane!
But thank you so much for your help - I very much appreciate it.

As usual Carole is correct! If you're locking down ALL the book pages, the easiest way is to use the Content Access module. That module is great at giving different roles different permissions for every page of a certain type.
However if you want different books to have different permissions, you will want to use the Book Access module - that lets you set permissions for a whole book at the book level, and all the pages in that book will "inherit" those permissions.

Hi Karin,
Carole's on the money here - I actually prefer her way of setting the permissions (on a per-book basis), as I like certain types of docs to not be seen by the general member (music team docs, board, etc), but others to be viewed by everyone. Much more control.
But, if you only have one book, just locking it under
admin > content management > content type > book page
is a great way to do it.
It sounds like your permissions need to be rebuilt - I went in for you and did that on your GHC site, Karin - try it out now and see if it works. For anyone else stumbling across this looking for how to rebuild permissions, you do it by going to:
admin > content management > post settings
and then (I know this seems weird), but click on 'node access status', and you will see the 'rebuild permissions' button there. It takes a bit of time if your site is really complex, so be patient. :)
Did this do it for you, Karin?

Hi Tom,
I still can't see the "edit" tab in my documents area when I log in with a board profile. I can see it under system admin profile but not board.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks.
Karin
Karin,
Are you setting the permissions on the book access page ?
The note seems to indicate you are in the content types book page.
