When you're logged in and go the the public site getting back to the dashboard is inconvenient
So I created a simple block that I have configured to display on my site at the top of the left side bar only for logged in members.
It makes it easier to edit pages. Rather than go having find the page you want to update through admin > content management > content and search for the page they want to edit. I just go to the public site, navigate to the page and then click on the edit tab.
Only thing was getting back to the dashboard wasn't obvious. This fixes that.
I like editing pages this way because its so simple to navigate. Amazing how long it took me to do something the easy way.
The code for this Block is easy, just go to admin > site building > blocks > add a block and create the block as you see it in the attachment to this post. Then go to admin > site building > blocks > list choose your public theme and add the block. I put it in the left sidebar, right at the top so its easy to find. Configured as you see it in the attached it only shows up for logged in members.
NOTE: I am using Groupanizer to build a site for a non-singing group that I belong to and in the example where you see aspa.groupanizer.com you need to replace that with your site's information.
See attached.

I don't think you're supposed to be answering questions like this before we ask them, Ian :-) But I'm glad you did -- I've had this one in the back of my head to figure out for a couple of weeks now...

All right, this got me going with some experiments. Ian's trick was helpful, but what I'm actually interested in doing is having the Groupanizer menu block appear in one of the areas of my nifty "public" theme. I figured out that the block I want is "Groupanizer Menu (Superfish)" and that to avoid having it appear to everyone I have to set it to appear only for authenticated users. I also figured out that if I want it to appear as a nice-looking menu I have to change the Superfish style -- as it is currently used, it's set to "none." The problem is that when i change the style so that it works with my "public" theme, it screws up the way it appears for the Groupanizer theme.
Well, no problem -- all I have to do is create a duplicate block with a different name, customize the Superfish style and I'm done, right? Well..theoretically. But I can't figure out how to create a new block with the Superfish options. Anyone know the trick? Failing that, there are three other Superfish blocks that all look the same: Superfish 1, Superfish 3, and Superfish 4. If I knew those weren't used somewhere else, I'd just hijack one of those by setting it to the Groupanizer menu rather than the Navigation menu. Anyone know if that would screw something up?

And the answer is....you can add another Superfish block but you have to do it here: http://example.com/admin/settings/superfish
I probably could have co-opted one of the existing menus -- when I added #5, it looked just like the other three. I just changed the name, configured it to please myself, and placed it where I wanted it. It doesn't work perfectly with my custom theme, but since it's mostly for my own administrative purposes anyway, it's good enough for now and I'll fix the theme next time I do an update.
Ok, enough fun -- time for bed!

You might need to change what I did a bit BACK TO DASHBOARD works better.
I built a site for another group and it has superfish menus using the Danland theme. You can see it at http://aspa.ca

Thank you so much! This is just what I was wishing for last week - as I kept bouncing back and forth updating pages. Plus - I have some members who are extremely computer challenged and I even put it on our member sidebar.
