Adding, deleting, or correcting a user's ROLE (after the user has selected their own password) requires that I know their password. Is there a by-pass via user mgt. or such?
On my way to #drupalcon with 3000 other geeks, hoping to fill my brain with useful Drupal goodness!

I think you're mistaken on this one. If you're the site admin, you can change anything about the user's account anytime you want as long as you've given the correct permissions to the site admin role.
Just make sure both Password areas are blank. Chrome loves to fill any space titled password with your own password. I always have to blank that field before I can save changes to another user.

Thanks, Ian!
I took your path of least resistance and it worked!!!

Thanks for replying -- Although I used Ian's suggestion, I then followed yours and checked the permissions and there was none for "edit profiles" (all user module permissions were checked for SA)
-- It seems that the key to my problem was the PW in the first slot that needed matching - erasing it did the trick!
