I'd prefer it if not *everything* I do shows up in the news feed. People don't care if I uploaded a document, or changed some songs, etc. Can I control what goes into the News Feed and what doesn't? Thanks, ~Bond

Evening Ed,
In Administer > Messaging & Notifications, Immediate Sending is Unchecked. But the "Default Send Interval" is set to immediately. I've reset it to twice a day. That being said, is there some way to remove all the NewsFeed posts after they've shown up in your dashboard?
Thanks,
~Bond

I'd like to bump this to try and get an answer. My members news feeds are dozens of items long, making the footer information scroll off screen. Any fix to this? Can you eliminate the news feed, and replace it with Recent Blog entries or something?

Turn off subscriptions to the various content types. On our site they are off for pretty much everything except our Director's weekly blog. Admin > Content Management > Content Types. Edit each one and uncheck the stuff under Subscription Settings for each content type that you don't want every little thing to be notified about. You can then check what you have by going to admin > messaging & notifications > group subscription. In there I only have blog entry checked and underneath it says "Content-type subscriptions are disabled for these types: Book page, Contact, Poll, Image, Profile, Invoice, Mailinglist Email, Recruit, Song, Song Status, Task, Public Page, Webform, Calendar Event"

Thinking there must be something else here. I'm trying to get songs off the news feed, as our perspective members, even though they cant get access to most of the song pages, they are able to click on the link in the feed, and download or play a song file direct from the dashboard....not a good thing!
I have unchecked all subscription boxes for songs.

Hmmm...that's interesting. Under admin > messaging & notifications > group subscription everything is already unchecked except the blog entry.
It also looks like subscription settings don't affect anything but the ability for users(?) to subscribe. The Workflow settings has the default options for publishing.
I guess I leave it alone for now and try to fix it later. It's annoying, but not really critical to get people on the site.

Tom, are you listening? I nominate Ian Harrop for some kind of "most-helpful-to-the-Groupanizer-community" award.

Amen to that! We're actually considering adding a few more badge levels to our Guru chart - Ian is an example of someone who would have earned a new status now!
THANKS IAN!!

I am trying to bump this as well. How do we limit the scope of items presented on the newsfeed? by date would be nice as well as content definition. I am still not sure how helpful the newsfeed item is compared to the blog entry.
To IT people we are willing to click and explore and come back and explore some more. To regular less technology savvy people like many of us have in our groups they want to read the newspaper.

I've looked at our Group Subscriptions under Messaging and Notifications and only have Blog entries checked...however, we're still seeing changes to a whole list of content types....profiles, forums, songs, riser placement, and more. We'd certainly welcome a way to limit the number of items in the News Feed.....ours currently has over 30 items in it, which is pretty daunting for many members.

Just following up on this topic - the newsfeed as it stands is a placeholder for what's to come. The Summer '13 release is scheduled to have feeds which will populate that area. A couple of the teasers we announced on our Facebook page for this (make sure you 'like' it to see teasers ilke this in the future!)
So, hang on for a bit longer, and when the release comes, I think you will be very pleased with the result! :)

I've found the News Feed, as it is today, to be more confusing than it is helpful. There is just way too much there that no one wants to see. We've turned the whole thing off on our page by selecting, "Dashboard Classic" in the Groupanizer settings. This leaves the Things To Do block in the center of the dashboard, followed by our director's blog. Between that and the various sidebar blocks we have everything we need to see.

Gotta agree with Tom, I still love Dashboard Classic.
At this point I can't see ever wanting to change from it

I think when you see what we are working with now, you will find more of a benefit to it. I think we all agree that the current version is not worth the real estate on the dashboard though. :)
Where it's going though? VERY EXCITING.
Trust me. ;)
