I am trying to setup SMS Framwork and was following the instructions posted here. http://www.groupanizer.com/feature-sms
but when I get to the part on page 7 about putting in your phone no and getting a confirmation code back, I get an error and it won't save the information and I get an error.
HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request.
I enabled the Devel Module, and was able to send a test message through that successfully, but cannot configure my account profile with my phone no without getting an error.
Any Ideas?

SMS Framework Setup

I just tried setting up SMS as well, and when I enter my phone number and select the carrier and click on Confirm, I just get a blank page and it never does confirm my number. I don't even see an error message. Is anyone else successfully using this? If so, please advise as to all the modules and permissions that need to be set up. Also, does SMS Verification in the SMS modules list need to be turned on for this to work? I'm seeing all the appropriate additional menu items for configuring this, but it doesn't work as described in the document posted in the help section.
Thanks!

We are using SMS successfully on our site. Some users did report that they got no response when setting up a phone number, but they just tried a second time and it worked.
We have the following modules enabled: Email gateway, Send to phone, SMS blast, SMS framework, and SMS user. Admin has permissions for everything SMS related and I gave several other roles the "Send SMS Blasts" permission. No other roles have any SMS permissions. My authenticated users are able to configure their own phone numbers with this configuration.

Thanks for the information. I have all of those modules set up and have access to them all as well. I've tried confirming my wireless number numerous times, but with no success. We'd really love to use this feature, but so far, it's not happening. I'll keep trying, but would appreciate any other guidance.
Thanks!

I just tried registering a phone number and got the same HTTP Error 500. It was working on our site earlier so something must have changed. There is an error message in the log too. Maybe we can get Tom to look into it. I'll send an email to support.

Has anyone else had problems with SMS and been able to fix it? Mine was working, but now I can't register new phone numbers. When I try to register a mobile number, it returns HTTP error 500. The log shows two entries like this:

I sure would like to see this fixed. Has anyone been able to get it working recently?
Thanks.

I've had this working for months. I put together a PDF with detailed instructions on how to set it up and sent it to Tom and a couple of other users who were having trouble with the SMS setup. I thought that it would have been added to the user's manual, but I guess it fell through the cracks.
I've attached the PDF file to this post. Feel free to share it with whomever you want. If you're getting the error messages detailed in some of the above posts, you'll need to go into the modules admin, disable the SMS modules, save the configuration, go back into the modules admin, and UNINSTALL the SMS modules. Then, go into the modules admin and enable the modules again (this is the first step in the PDF file).
Good luck,
~randy
Thanks for the information. Since I was having the error messages mentioned above, I attempted to follow your instructions regarding disabling the modules and then uninstalling the SMS modules. I was able to disable them (all except the SMS Framework option since it won't let you disable it) and after disabling and saving them I went to the Uninstall tab and choose SMS and clicked on Uninstall. The SMS Framework item still appears on my Admin menu even after logging off and back in again.
I tried going through the setup process again, per your instructions, but still get the same error as above when I try to confirm my cell number. It appears that the uninstall process doesn't actually uninstall the SMS Framework as it should. I imagine if that would actually happen, the problem would be fixed.
Any additional suggestions?
Thanks!

Hi Guys,
Just to chime in here, we don't actually support the SMS module yet, because we are aware that it is a bit buggy. We have it on our list to possibly look into building something officially in the next year or two. (That's likely why it isn't in the manual) I know that those of you out in the storm areas really want this. In the meantime, we have 'turned on' this Drupal module so those that want to fool around with it can. :)
Hope that helps explain things a bit!

Sorry about that. In order to be able to disable the SMS Framework module, you'll need to first disable the SMS Messaging module, which is located under the Messaging block of modules. Once you disable that and save the changes, you'll be able to go back in and disable the SMS Framework module. After all the SMS modules are disabled, they should appear in the list of modules that can be uninstalled. If they don't, you'll need some help from the Groupanizer team.
Good luck,
~randy
Randy,
Thanks for the additional information. That did the trick as far as actually uninstalling SMS Framework from the admin menu. I never did see an Uninstall option for the SMS Framework itself, but did have one for SMS User. I found that it was a 3 step process for disabling all the SMS stuff. I first had to disable the SMS Messaging and everything else I could under the SMS section (SMS Framework and SMS User were greyed out so I couldn't do those the first time through). Then I saved that and went back and disabled the SMS User but SMS Framework was still grayed out. After saving that, I went back in and could finally disable SMS Framework. Then I went to Uninstall and uninstalled SMS User since that was the only one that was SMS related in the list of modules I could uninstall.
After doing all that, I went back through the setup process and, unfortunately, still had the same error when trying to confirm my number.
Any other ideas?
Thanks!

All,
Use the above procedure with caution. I've been having the same problem with SMS. To this point, it was only a problem for new members who couldn't add their number to the mobile tab under user profile. Following the above procedure did not fix the issue. It will also CLEAR all previous cell number registrations. Now, instead of only having two people who can't receive SMS Blasts, I have 90.
I realize that this is an unsupported feature of Groupanizer. (I always thought it was... :) So, it's on us to find a fix. But, if you have the ability to send SMS to your current population, do NOT uninstall the framework to try to troubleshoot until we have a definitive fix! :)

Has anyone had luck with this recently? We just had a situation where working SMS would have saved one of our members a 90 mile drive, so I'm really keen to get it working again. We had it working at one point, and some of our members are registered, but anyone who tries to register now gets the dreaded HTTP 500 error. I even created a new user just to test it, but had no success.
