Who's Out There!?

Good morning all, We're a small chorus in Marin County, CA (SF BAy Area) and we've been using Groupanizer - well, actually, more like observing it! - for the past 5 or 6 months. It's a bit overwhelming, so much potential and not immediately intuitive, at least to this aging and sometimes addled brain! I'm a firm believer in user groups, and I'd really like to get this forum active. Mostly because I've got a LOT of questions, and I'm sure that there are people out there using the Groupanizer application with great results. So mostly this post is an attempt to see who's out there using the forums. Thanks, Bond (Secretary, Marin Golden Gate Barbershop Chorus)

Old Brains

Must admit that sometime the system is challengin, but I have to admit if we have had a problem it has normally been me that generated it.  Having helped with the inception I have come to be known as the "great exploder" a result of trying to say great exporer corrected by the spell checker.  I am still learning, but have found a couple of helpful books which get me through some spots.  Drupal for Dummies is a recommended read.  Of course if you are looking for good stuff to help you go to sleep at night there is a wealt of it at drupal.org..

Hi. I am Philippa and I have been a user for 1 year and 23 weeks!

Well that what my account on here says!

Seriously though, Rhythm of the Rockies went live with Groupanizer Sept. 2009.  We are a Sweet Adelines Chorus in Calgary, Alberta, with just over 50 members. Our Public site is powered by Groupanizer also.

Hi all Ok, my turn. I'm

Hi all

Ok, my turn. I'm Yvon Blais, and I'm with the Capital City Chorus, wich is the Ottawa Chapter of the BHS. 100 men on paper. We've gone on Groupanizer about in April last year, and we're slowly transitioning from our old platform to this (which is kinda silly coz I got to run both...) but that what it is!!! Just some of our public pages are left back (and our mailing lists), and for chorus management, all is done with Groupanizer. I'll take the blame for the duet website!!!

I LOVE all the features and the way most things are set up.

Amy Rule here with the Harbor

Amy Rule here with the Harbor City Music Company Show Chorus from Baltimore MD.  We just found Groupanizer at the SAI convention in Seattle, and have brought it up as the members-only portion of our website as of Jan 1.  I've pretty much done it single-handedly, and it's been mostly pretty easy.  So far most of my chorus loves the site, especially our music and choreo teams.  Still have a few members having issues, but we're planning on doing a presentation at retreat this weekend which hopefully will overcome most of that.

(Yeah, we're the Crayons from Seattle ...)

Hello everyone, Ron Morris,

Hello everyone,

Ron Morris, from the Major Oak Chorus in Nottingham, UK.

Just completed the trial period, and moving into actually paying for the site.

Although the learning curve is, in my opinion quite steep, I'm getting there now, and only get lost about 4 times a day!

Seriously, the whole chorus love the Repertoire and calendar functions, and our management and music committees are beginning to see the merits of centralised management. My next task will be to build the public side of the site, so I'll probably be bothering you all with stupid questions for some time to come.

Hello from

Hello from Munich/Germany,

I am Groupanizer admin for Barbershopchorus "Herrenbesuch" (translatable as "gentleman visitors") from Munich. We started using Groupanzier in December 2010. Our Chorus members are quite satisfied with the new oganization system. My feeling is that Groupanizer and the forums here are more and more coming into live. That will help all of us a lot!

In addition to the common pitfalls translation into German makes some issues more tricky, but thanks to some busy people it is improving more and more.

Hi Richard, I am looking at using Grouporganizer for my French

Hi Richard,

I am looking at using Grouporganizer for my French language choir. As you have used it for your choir in German I am kinterested to know about your experience? I would maybe like to use it in French. We already have a public website at www.choralesaintjean.com but before switching over I would set up the management functions first. We are using Google groups to communicate with our members and and various other means to keep track of our members etc.

Bonjour Jean Claude!

Kari

<In English for all to understand:>

Hello Jean Claude!

Since you wrote this post, we actually have completed our translation project in Groupanizer, and are now enabling several languages.  We have completed German, are in the process of completing the Finnish and Swedish translations, and are starting the French translation now.

Usually, the way we create a translation is that a group of people in the country or area who want the language changed contact us (individually or as a group).  We set up a site that they can access to the words and phrases that need translating.  Each person receives an account access and can translate as little as one word, or as many as hundreds.  Once all the words are completed, we reset their site in the correct language for them.  It works well as a community experience, so that no one person is overwhelmed.

Any other French speakers out there wanting to contribute to the French translation?

<apologies for my very awkward and likely very incorrect French!>

Cheers,
Kari

Well, this thread looks like

Well, this thread looks like it died out in February, but maybe it's time to revive it.  I'm the director of the Pittsburgh Threshold Choir, one of about 100 groups of women in the US, Canada and a few elsewhere who are organized to sing (usually 2 or three at a time) at bedsides of people who are very ill or dying.  i stumbled across Groupanizer a few months back and after our recent national gathering decided to get serious about it.  Glad I did -- two weeks in it's being met with great enthusiasm by everyone who has signed in, and I'm in the process of recruiting some of my colleagues to try it for their groups.  We've got some unique repertoire and scheduling issues, and the flexibility of the system seems just about made for us.

Tom mentioned in passing that choruses are signing up left and right, so I'd be interested to hear who else is out there.

Hi everyone I'm from Adelaide

Hi everyone
I'm from Adelaide Sound Connection, Sweet Adelines chorus in South Australia. After a trial period, we've only just really gone 'live' to our members with Groupanizer. I love it, and fortunately have one other chorus member who is tech-savvy and we can bounce questions and ideas off each other. There are a number of women in our chorus who already struggle with technologically-based tasks - some even still use tape recorders to make their riser tapes! Does anyone have any really great ideas for winning the hearts and minds of people who are relucant or fearful? I have created a couple of 'Getting Started on Groupanizer' text files with screen dumps - which I have tried to make user-friendly. Any other suggestions are very welcome!
thanks
Diane

Hi Joseph,

I am with the Capital Chordettes of Harmony Inc. Our team of 3 implementers offered training sessions for 4-6 people, with enough laptops so everyone had hands-on experience. Some members received in-home personal sessions, since they needed to see it on their own computers. Some members needed no personalized training at all. Many in our chorus were reluctant to adopt this new technology, so we introduced functions gradually.

Hi Lisa and welcome to the forums.  I'm sure you'll find plenty of help here as you get your website up and running.  On thing that will make things easier is to create a signature for yourself on the forums.  See this page: http://groupanizer.com/create-forum-signature-it-helps-people-trying-help-you

This will help us find your chorus page when answering questions.  Plus, once you have a really good site up and running, we know where to go to steal  ideas!
