Like many groups, I guess, we're having a hard time getting members to login, enter their attendance plan, response to tasks or Invoices we would post for them... and let's face it, some members will NEVER log on (they ask their friends to download their songs for them..)...
So, what I would like GPNZ to do for me (and maybe it already does...) is anytime I create something that's member related (New event in the calendar, namely), I would like an email automatically sent to each invited member, email in which they only have to click without (seemingly) having to log on, respond directly in the email.
I haven't done too much with the weekly alerts, which I had going for a while and we stopped them because we're not up to programming them properly yet (we'll get back to it in a bit), but my feeling is that as they're issued at regular intervals and their content is relatively similar from time to time, some members rapidly ignore them... I would prefer an email message with only one piece of info and one quick thing to do to be sent only when required, something that attracts more attention than a regular one.

Our director posts a weekly blog, typically on Thursday, prior to our Monday meeting. Typically it includes his thoughts on what were doing now, last practice and what we need to work on. Sometimes its longer, sometimes shorter. At the end of the editorial he inserts a "teaser" line, that separate it from the next section. After the "teaser" line he has the plan for the upcoming meeting, including what songs we'll be working on.
An email goes out through the notification system that he has posted his blog, and it includes the editorial up to the "teaser" line.
To read the actual plan for the upcoming meeting members have to come to the site and click "Read More".
We're doing pretty good with users logging in to read our Directors plan so they are prepared for the upcoming meeting. Our goal is to have user connect once a week to read his plan and hopefully while they are there update their learning status and their attendance plan. At this point I think we're doing OK. Not everyone logs in but most do.

My director and I have just recently decided to start utilizing our blog posting abillities a bit more extensively. We're finding that we're somehow inadvertently triggering this "Read More" deal when have no intention to do so. I can't seem to figure out how to avoid/undo it so all of the text in the post displays (at least not intentionally, I've done it once by accident). Is there a setting somewhere regarding blog posts that does this? Or is it something in the text of the post that triggers end of what displays before having to click the "Read More" link?

The thing that is getting you is called the Teaser Line. The idea is that anything above the Teaser Line goes in the email and to read the rest you have to login.
You can predefine where the Teaser Line goes: Administer > Content Management > Post Settings
You can also manually insert the Teaser Line. Look for a button in the editor that has several horizontal black lines with one Hortizontal red line in the middle.
Our Director puts a teser line in his weekly blog to help encourage people to login to the site. The hope is that they will update their Song Status and Attendnace Plan while they are there.

Hey Yvon - I was talking to your director about this, and it's quite feasible. It's a lot like what I'm already doing with mailing list unsubscriptions - you just click on a link in the email and you're unsubscribed. (This is highly secure because the commands include a hash with a rather long private key...)
I could do the same with other kinds of things, but the original idea was for responding to attendance requests.
For example:
What do people think of this idea?
Awesome
I'm picturing both attendance and tasks for now...
I know.. I see much further out of the box than Denis does....

Great idea. Would certainly make planning easier. I was looking for one more mailing list that would allow certain events with no response to also email, perhaps an add to the calendar where individuals with proper permissions could send out followup emails.

It occurred to me that having a 'subscription' to the blog shoud take care of this, but since the users can control subscriptions, it seems difficult to manage so that everybody who needs it gets it. I'd love this 'automatic' feature, it would make blogs a lot more useful for us!

If you go to Administer › Messaging & Notifications > Subscriptions I think you can ensure that everyone is subscribed to the blog.

Yes, but I don't think I can keep them from UNSUBSCRIBING.
